1. Do not wait for the final working day

2. Register with the RAV

The official registration page provides two routes: the Job-Room eService and personal registration with the competent regional employment centre. Register early and no later than the first day claimed. Keep your contact data current and follow invitations and control requirements after registration.

The first meeting typically requires evidence of the AHV number, official ID or residence permit, and the job-search efforts already made. The RAV may request more evidence for the individual case. A single nationwide mandatory document pack would therefore be misleading.

3. Choose an unemployment insurance fund and apply

The RAV and the unemployment insurance fund have different jobs. The RAV follows the job search. The fund checks statutory eligibility, calculates the benefit and pays it. The official insurance-benefits overview makes payment conditional on all legal requirements. This guide therefore promises no fixed percentage, amount, start date or duration.

SECO's current benefit FAQ identifies the unemployment-benefit application, employer certificates for the previous two years and any additional information requested by the fund. 6. Hungarian insurance periods and cross-border cases

Switzerland participates in EU/EFTA social-security coordination. The coordination overview and the FAQ show that PD U1 may support evidence of foreign insurance periods. The document alone does not establish Swiss benefit entitlement: residence, last place of work, insurance history and the full case are assessed.

8. Who answers which question?

Ask the RAV about public-employment registration, evidence of job-search efforts, counselling meetings, referred vacancies and labour-market measures. Ask the unemployment insurance fund about eligibility, calculations, missing employer certificates, PD U1, monthly submissions, interim earnings and payment status. Request the exact current document name and accepted filing route when something is missing, and retain written requests and decisions.

The former employer supplies employment evidence but does not decide benefit entitlement. The cantonal migration authority handles permit questions. A disputed dismissal, unpaid salary or employment-reference problem may require an employment-law body. Keeping these responsibilities separate prevents an urgent question from remaining with the wrong organisation.
